About Us

A Tier 3 Regenerative Farm · Northland West Coast

About Us

Wild Meadows is a small 86-hectare family farm on Northland’s West Coast, where rolling pasture meets native bush and the ocean breeze rolls in over the hills. Brendon, Michelle and our two young children, Piper and Hugo, live and work here alongside our cattle, chooks, pastured pigs and sheep.

Our focus is beef: raised on diverse pasture, harvested on-farm, dry-aged on the bone, and sold direct to the families who eat it. The way a farmer fills their own freezer.

How we farm

We use holistic planned grazing that mimics the way herds move in nature, shifting our cattle frequently onto fresh, diverse pasture and giving each paddock a long rest before it’s grazed again. It builds carbon-rich soil, keeps the cattle calm and well fed, and produces beef with real depth of flavour.

We farm without synthetic fertilisers or agrochemicals, and because healthy pasture grows healthy animals, animal health inputs are kept to a minimum. The grazing does the work. That’s what our Tier 3 regenerative rating measures: how the land is actually cared for.

Soil first

Healthy beef starts with healthy soil. Rotational grazing builds deeper roots, more organic matter, and land that gets richer every year.

Permaculture

We make the most of what the land gives us: a working farm ecosystem that supports native birds, beneficial insects and thriving soil life.

Connection

Our farm is where our kids learn where food comes from, and customers are welcome to visit and see how we farm firsthand.

The animals

Our cattle join us young and grow out slowly on clean Northland pasture, never rushed to keep supermarket shelves stocked. Only the best, well-grown animals are selected for processing.

When the time comes, the animal is harvested here on the farm by a mobile abattoir, in a calm, familiar environment with no truck ride and no stress. The carcass is inspected by an MPI-approved inspector before being delivered to your local independent butcher. There it is dry-aged on the bone for around ten days to deepen the flavour, before being cut and packed to your preference.

Truly farm to table

We sell beef to all families, the way farmers stock their freezers themselves: by the quarter, half or whole beast, processed to your liking, your steaks, your roasts, your sausages, just as if you owned the animal and took it to the butcher yourself. And just like a farmer would, you collect your beef from a small independent butcher near you.

Every animal we produce is farmed and processed with care. By choosing Wild Meadows, you’re supporting an alternative local supply chain where quality comes first, and more of your hard-earned money stays in the local community, supporting the people who grow, process and prepare your food.

Best of all, we organise everything. All you need to do is choose your cut preferences and collect your beef from the butcher. You’ll find more details on our Shop page, and every cut is explained in the Beef Cuts Guide.

“We believe healthy beef starts with healthy soil and farm ecosystems. Every animal contributes to a wider web that supports native birds, beneficial insects, and thriving soil life.”
