From our paddock to your plate
Just like a farmer fills their freezer with homekill beef or shares it with family, you can purchase a whole beef or share a half or quarter with other customers. The only difference? Yours is inspected on farm and processed by a licensed homekill and retail butcher.
When you place an order, you’re engaging two people: Wild Meadows, the farmer, and your local independent butcher. We raise and carefully select the animal, have it harvested and inspected on farm, and deliver it to the butcher. The butcher dry-ages your carcass and cuts it exactly the way you choose. Here’s how it unfolds, including who you pay for what along the way.
-
Raised with care at Wild Meadows
Your beef begins years before your order: cattle raised on diverse regenerative pasture, grass-fed and grass-finished, handled calmly their whole lives. Your money goes directly to the farmer and the local community.
-
You place your order
Choose a quarter, half or whole beef, then tell us exactly how you want it processed: your cuts, sausage flavours and small goods. The butcher will follow these choices when your beef is cut. Not sure what to choose? The Beef Cuts Guide explains every cut.
You can also purchase oxtail, beef cheeks, liver and other organs with your order, on a first in, first served basis.
-
We select your animal
As we near a harvest date, we select only the best: well-grown, prime animals.
You pay a deposit to Wild Meadows to secure your order -
Harvested calmly, at home on the farm
The animal is processed right here in familiar, stress-free surroundings by a licensed On Farm Harvest team: no trucks, no saleyards, no stress.
-
Inspected and weighed
The carcass and organs are inspected by an MPI-approved inspector at the time of harvest, and the carcass weight is recorded by the micro abattoir. That weight is what your carcass price is calculated on.
You pay Wild Meadows the carcass balance -
Delivered to your butcher for dry aging
Your carcass hangs and dry-ages on the bone for around 10 days, the traditional way to develop flavour and tenderness.
-
Cut and packed, your way
The butcher processes your carcass into the cuts you chose when you ordered. Like homekill, sausages and small goods are weighed after they’re made, so the butcher confirms your final butchery cost.
And because you’re engaging the butcher, you’re free to make any special requests directly to them.
-
You collect and pay the butcher
The butcher lets you know your order is ready to collect, packed and labelled.
You pay the butcher for the butchery
One order, three payments
The deposit
A deposit of $500, requested as we near a harvest date. It secures your order for your whole, half or quarter farm to table beef.
The carcass balance
Due once your animal is harvested and weighed, charged per kg on the actual recorded carcass weight.
Covers raising and selecting the animal, the On Farm Harvest, MPI-approved inspection, and delivery to your butcher.
The butchery
Paid directly to the butcher, before or on the day you collect. It isn’t included in what you pay Wild Meadows.
Covers dry aging and cutting and packing your beef into your chosen cuts. Every order’s fee is unique, because it depends on the processing you choose, and sausages and small goods are weighed after they’re made.
